Pari Lake or Fairy Lake: A Trekking Adventure in the Mountains

Pari Lake is a stunning high-altitude lake located in the KP region of Pakistan. It is situated at an elevation of about 14,000 feet above sea level and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the region. The lake is also known as Fairy Lake due to its mystical beauty and the legend that surrounds it.

Pari Lake Location

Pari Lake is located near Kalam Valley Swat in KP Province of Pakistan.

Pari, also known as Fairy Lake, is a hidden gem nestled amidst the majestic mountains of Utror Valley, Pakistan. Local residents affectionately refer to it as Khapiro Dandh. While Google may display only one large lake, in reality, there are two lakes: Fairy 1 and Fairy 2. Fairy 1 serves as the water source for Fairy 2, but it is relatively smaller in size compared to its counterpart. These enchanting lakes are separated by a large stone wall, and to reach Fairy 1, you must first cross Fairy 2, embarking on a trek that takes approximately 20 to 25 minutes.

Pari Lake Trek

The trek is quite challenging, but the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the valley below make it worth the effort. The trail to the lake is surrounded by lush green meadows and towering mountains, and one can hear the sound of the river flowing nearby.

There are two main trekking routes to reach Pari or Fairy Lake. One starts from Kundol Lake, while the other begins from Izmis Lake. Additionally, there are two treks from Kundol Lake itself. One commences just before the lake, on the right side of the mountain. It is a steep and challenging ascent. The other trek begins from Jabba Banda, approximately 1.5 kilometers from Kundol Lake.

Jabba Banda, a beautiful meadow, serves as an ideal camping spot along the way. On both sides of the mountain, you’ll find a few shepherd huts adding to the rustic charm of the place. From Jabba Banda, there is a pass that allows you to descend directly to Bahrain. Along this path, you’ll encounter a small descending area and a wooden bridge over a river, marking the continuation of your trek toward the Fairy Lakes.

As you embark on the ascent, the continuous climb begins. Initially, you’ll experience a gradual descent among the boulders, followed by a sudden transition into a rocky ascent after a few hundred meters. One of the highlights of this trek is the breathtaking view of Kundol Lake from such a height. It’s truly a sight to behold. As Kundol Lake disappears from sight, you’ll be greeted by small waterfalls that adorn the path leading to Fairy Lake. These cascades add a touch of serenity and beauty to the journey.

There is a challenging stretch during the trek, featuring steep ascending terrain with large boulders and pastures. Local shepherds bring their livestock to graze in these areas during the summer when fodder becomes scarce in the plains.

As one approaches Pari Lake, the view becomes even more breathtaking. The crystal-clear water of the lake reflects the surrounding mountains, and the scenery is simply mesmerizing. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, and the air is so fresh and pure that it is almost intoxicating.
