Skardu is a beautiful town located in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of Pakistan, known for its stunning landscapes and scenic beauty. One of the must-visit destinations is the SOQ Valley Skardu, a hidden gem nestled between the towering Karakoram mountains.

Location of SOQ Valley Skardu

SOQ Valley Skardu is one of the most picturesque valleys in Skardu, located on the upper side of Kachura. Although it is no longer a hidden place in Skardu. Most travelers know about this place. Straight road from Shangrila resort to upper Kachura lake and then the road diverges. The straight one leads to the Upper Kachura Lake, while the other turns left towards the Soq Valley. It’s kind of a trekking type for which 4×4 vehicles are suitable.

How to reach SOQ Valley Skardu

SOQ Valley Skardu is a few km from Shangrila Resorts, approximately half an hour drive from Shangrila. The beautiful rivers originating from the Deosai National Park flow into one river “SOQ river” even before entering the SOQ valley. You can drive 4WD, cycle or trek to the valley camp after turning left from Kachura village and driving along the SOQ river. 

There are many beautiful places to stay on the way, although it is a short half hour drive and the whole journey is so fascinating and worth spending some time. From the Google map, one can see Shangrila Lake and SOQ Valley on two sides of one mountain. We had a great time at the campsite along with a BBQ, a bonfire and a cup of tea. The rest of the beauty is already created by Allah and gifted to this wedge of two mountains, turning it into a heavenly place for nature explorers.

Altitude of SOQ Valley Skardu

The Soq Valley Skardu is known for its lush green meadows, crystal clear streams, and pristine lakes. The valley is situated at an altitude of around 3000 meters, making it a perfect destination for trekking and camping enthusiasts. The valley is also home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including the Himalayan ibex, snow leopard, and the elusive brown bear.

Best Time to Visit SOQ Valley Skardu

The best time to visit the Soq Valley is from May to September, when the weather is pleasant and the valley is covered with a carpet of greenery. The valley is accessible through a bumpy jeep track that takes you through some of the most breathtaking landscapes you’ll ever see.

Once you reach the Soq Valley, you’ll be greeted by the sight of the majestic Laila Peak, towering over the valley at a height of over 6000 meters. The peak is a popular destination for mountaineers and climbers from around the world, and offers some of the most challenging and rewarding climbing experiences.

The Soq Valley Skardu is also home to several small villages, where you can experience the local culture and hospitality of the Balti people. The villagers are known for their warm and friendly nature, and will welcome you with open arms.
